It’s hard to believe that after years of waiting, we’re finally aboard the Norwegian Luna Maiden Voyage! There are cruises that feel special from the moment you book them, and our Norwegian Luna Transatlantic cruise was definitely one of those.
We’re living one of those pinch-me cruise moments. Norwegian Luna is the newest ship from Norwegian Cruise Line and we’re on board to tell you all about it. From exploring the historic sights in Rome before embarkation, to waking up in Barcelona, and now looking ahead to Gibraltar, this sailing already feels unforgettable.
And we’re only just getting started.
A Few Magical Days in Rome Before the Cruise
If you ever get the chance to sail from Civitavecchia, we highly recommend flying into Rome early. In fact, at least five days before your sailing. Not only does it help shake off the jet lag, but it gives you time to soak in the magic of Rome before boarding the ship.
Rome is unlike anywhere we’ve visited before.

One moment you’re standing in front of the ancient ruins of the Colosseum, the next you’re tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, and then suddenly you’re sitting down for pasta that might be the best thing you’ve ever eaten.
We spent our days walking, eating, and just taking in the history of the city. Rome has this incredible ability to make you feel both like a tourist and like you somehow belong there.
Eventually, though, it was time to head to the port.
Embarkation Day in Civitavecchia
We took the train down to Civitavecchia from Rome the day before our cruise. It takes less than an hour to get from the Eternal City down to the port stop, however, the anticipation made it feel even shorter.
On cruise morning, we got up early (honestly, we didn’t sleep well!) and made our way down to the port to get our first look at Norwegian Luna. There she was, just waiting to welcome her first guests!
We were so excited that we hosted a “surprise live update” in front of the ship.
Being on a maiden voyage always carries a special energy. Crew members are excited, guests are buzzing with anticipation, and everywhere you go there’s a sense that something historic is happening.
After checking in, we stepped onboard and officially became part of Luna’s very first sailing. Stay tuned for our First 24 Hours On Board where we’ll tell you about boarding and our first impressions.
What’s Different on Norwegian Luna?
One of the questions we’ve been hearing from cruisers is: “How is Luna different from Aqua?”
We actually put together a full video breaking down the differences between the ships, what’s new, and what surprised us the most.
In the video we cover:
- Design differences
- New venues and changes
- What returning Norwegian cruisers will notice immediately
- And what we think makes Luna stand out
In addition to those changes, we’ve discovered even more that Norwegian snuck in with Luna now that we’re on board! Stay tuned to the channel as we’ll be telling you about all of them!
More Norwegian Luna Content Coming Soon
We’re documenting this entire sailing – from ship tours, to food reviews to our honest Loved, Didn’t Love, and Hated Full Review breakdown once the cruise ends.
So if you’re curious about Norwegian Luna, stay tuned because we have a lot more coming soon.
And trust us… This ship is already giving us a lot to talk about.
