Why I Love my AirTags
AirTags are simple. It’s a one-tap setup using your iPhone or iPad. They allow Rocky and me to keep track of our luggage, backpacks, and keys, along with anything else we don’t want to lose. If your checked suitcase takes a detour, or your backpack is left behind, you can quickly locate it using Apple’s Find My network. Find My consists of millions of Apple devices around the world.
Plus, I appreciate the fact that these have a super long battery life compared to some other luggage trackers we’ve used. When it eventually comes time to replace the batteries, Apple makes it super easy. Simply pop open the AirTag, remove the depleted battery, and install the new one. All in, it took me less than a minute (once I managed to get the AirTag out of the keychain holder I purchased).
Airlines Can Now Help Find Your Luggage
One of the biggest reasons I recommend packing an Apple AirTag is that many major airlines now support Apple’s Share Item Location feature.
If your checked luggage is delayed or misplaced, you can securely share your AirTag’s location directly with the airline’s baggage team. Instead of simply filing a lost luggage report and hoping for the best, you’ll be able to provide real-time location information that can help them locate your bag faster.
Airlines including Delta, United, Air Canada, British Airways, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Qantas, and several others have added support, with more continuing to roll out the feature. If you’re flying to your cruise, this added peace of mind alone makes an AirTag worth considering.
Never Wonder Where Your Luggage Is
There’s nothing worse than arriving in your cruise departure city only to realize your suitcase didn’t arrive with you. An AirTag lets you check the location of your luggage right from your phone, often before you’ve even reached baggage claim.
Even after embarkation, it continues to be useful. Place one in your backpack, camera bag, or carry-on, and you’ll always know where your important belongings are throughout your vacation. We utilize our luggage trackers to keep an eye on our bags throughout the entire journey.
AirTags are Not for Everyone, But Luggage Tracking Is!
We love our AirTags. However, they’re not for everyone. Apple is famous for its closed ecosystem, which requires an Apple device to activate and fully use AirTags. But not to worry Android users; Android-compatible luggage tracking is still available. As an added bonus? Android trackers are often offered at a discount to Apple’s closed-loop system.
Additionally, we realize that not everyone is ready to invest into Apple AirTags. That’s why we tested one of the generic luggage tracker brands available on Amazon. While they don’t hold the battery charge as long, they’re a fraction of the price. If you don’t mind the hassle of swapping out batteries, these could be a great alternative. And they save you some money.
Finally, for those of us that want to track our wallets and passports, Apple AirTags just aren’t practical. If you carry a purse or bag, they work. However, a traditional luggage tracker in my ultra-thin wallet – or attached to my passport wallet – would like quite silly. That’s why I invested in this thin Wallet Tracker almost a year ago. Now, whenever I lose my wallet at home, I simply open the Find My app and chime my wallet. And I no longer have panic attacks wondering where my passport is; I know that it’s tracked and safe with me at all times. This is one tracker that EVERYONE should have!
